Watlington Ranch's Personal Horses
This is a page dedicated to our personal horses, they all have their own purpose for us and are great at what they do. Either they are in training for or are already trained/used for trail and road riding, ride fence lines, work cattle, and compete or competed in the arena in either speed or cow events. All the horses pedigrees are on allbreedpedigree.com under their registered names given.
Cm misty mist-1997 aqha mare
"Mare" is Johns mare he bought from the sand hills of Nebraska back in 2006. She is trained roping (head, heal, and pasture) and proven ranch mare; she is also patterned on the barrels. Mare has a wonderful disposition and conformation that is hard to beat. She has produced one foal for us, Diesel, who has turned out to be a great all round gelding. Mare is a double bred Tiger Leo on the top and out of a Short Cut/Sheel Blow(Leo) mare. Mare is retired from riding due to an old shoulder injury that flares up when she is rode but we are planning on breeding her spring 2016 to a ranch bred stallion.
joe mac bugs-2004 aqha gelding
"Rusty" Jo got from a good friend when he was a coming yearling and is her main horse. Rusty has traveled all over with Jo and she has trained him for a wide variety of disciplines both western & english. Rusty loves pole bending, running barrels, cutting, working cattle, and ponying green horses. This gelding gives his all in and out of the arena, he is always ready to go and a dream to ride.
King of the roxy-2007 aqha gelding
King is one of Johns cutting horses. Currently John has about 120 days of training on him in the arena and has been started on the flag, cattle, and trail rides. King is showing great potential to be a awesome all around gelding when he is finished. This gelding loves attention and to be rode no matter what he and John are doing. King is by Slide To Jamaica (Smart Chic Olena X Hurricane Jamaica (Ciclone)) out of Comos Leo Bird (Doctor Como(Son ofa Doc)X Blue Leo Bird (Doc Clabber/War Leo)).
joyful storm-2001 aqha mare
"Tequila" came off the track and is Jos main barrel horse. This mare had a great deal of issues when she came to us but Jo and her clicked. Now you will find them doing anything from arena work to trails and road riding to ranch work. This mare shows a great deal of promise as a top notch barrel horse and Tequila thoroughly enjoys it. Jo started lightly hauling her in 2011 and in loping a standard pattern she was clocking around a second off the winning times. Unfortunately life has gotten in the way of competing on a regular basis and that was the only year she was competed. Tequila is by Cape Storm, a son of the great Storm Cat O/O a Roberto/Bold Ruler mare. Tequila is out of Magic Hope-SI 103 ROM & AAAT daughter of Joyful Hope (who is the maternal Grand sire to Hopes Money Boy) & a Leo/Go Man Go/Bert mare. Magic Hope is the dam and grand-dam of many ROM and AAA earners & producers on the track and in the barrel arena; Tequila was her last foal. Due to Tequila getting older and being a maiden mare still, we have her booked to the up and coming stallion "Guys Keepin The Fame" fo ra 2017 foal. We are very excited about this cross!
Sonitas peppy bar-1999 aqha mare
"Pepper" came from a good friend of ours by Omaha, NE. This mare has been used for anything and anybody on the trails, down the road, and on the ranch. She can work a cow, hit the advanced trails, go swimming, attend a fun show or barrel run, ranch work, or just relax for a beginner rider. She has produced 2 foals (for us), a bay filly born in late fall 2009 by Jos Thoroughbred stallion Omalis Buckaroo and a 2012 sorrel colt by Uh Huh Its A Playboy. This mare is by Uno Sonita, a son of the great Sonitas Last. She is out of a foundation bred Doc Bar/Leo mare. Sadly we had to put this great mare down early spring of 2016 due to impending health issues, she is greatly missed.
Mr strawberry twist-2005 aqha gelding
"Steve" is a 15.2 hand, 1300 lb red roan gelding we got in a trade back in 2009. He came to us with a lot of holes in his training and a lot of issues on the ground. After months of re-training, Steve is now a horse that anyone can ride and nothing bothers him. He has tracked cattle, worked the flag, worked out of the boxes, roped a few steers, trotted the barrels and poles, and used on trails.
kings cutter sunbar-2010 AQHA/nfqha mare
"Peanut" is a 91% foundation bred AQHA mare who stands 14.2 hands and built like a tank. This little power house was started under saddle summer 2015 with 30 days training in the arena where she got a good using handle on her. Throughout the fall she was ridden down the road, on trails, through the pastures and fields, and around cattle. Peanut has never once offered to do anything ill tempered, she is a solid little mare with no spook. She had the winter off and rode off without a hitch! We are looking forward to continuing her training this summer. We may offer her for sale later this summer, email or call us if you are interested.
